It you leave your PSU plugged in and on 24/7 like most users, you will never discover the issue unless there is a brownout or blackout or unplug your computer.)If the motherboard doesn't work and you leave your PSU on, a LDO voltage regulator on the bottom right of the board gets super hot.My request to anybody who has similar issues with the ASRock Z97 Extreme4 is to check the last symptom by hovering your hand over the LDO regulator or touching the black portion of the regulator with your finger (Do not touch the metal pins) before RMAing the board. (This is the symptom that makes it hard for the average user to discover the problem. Not after the way they've handled this one.ASRock agreed to replace the board under warranty, I mailed it out 2 Thursdays ago and I was supposed to receive the replacement today. I certainly won't be considering ASRock as a possibility in my own future builds. It's a shame people aren't aware of these issues before forking out their hard earned on a piece of hardware that should have defect written all over it. It's now 2015, the board has been available for just under a year I believe, how are they still getting away with all these defect boards? 157 comments tells me that the problem is not a small batch, it's worldwide and harshly effecting their consumer base.

If it's not lit, I know right away its not going to start. If I remove the plug, switch off or lose power, once I apply electricity to the power supply again, I check for that light. I've noticed that when I do a normal windows shut down, the LED light remains lit. In every event when the motherboard wouldn't fire up, if I turned off the rear ps switch and unplugged, and gave a try later (30+ min) it seemed to start again.I have added a card reader w/usb port, and it has a LED "power" light on it.
